Boundary Critical Phenomena in the Three-State Potts Model

چکیده
Boundary critical phenomena are studied in the 3State Potts model in 2 dimensions using conformal field theory, duality and renormalization group methods. A presumably complete set of boundary conditions is obtained using both fusion and orbifold methods. Besides the previously known free, fixed and mixed boundary conditions a new one is obtained. This illustrates the necessity of considering fusion with operators that don’t occur in the bulk spectrum, to obtain all boundary conditions. It is shown that this new boundary condition is dual to the mixed ones. The phase diagram for the quantum chain version of the Potts model is analyzed using duality and renormalization group arguments.

Completeness of Boundary Conditions for the Critical Three-state Potts Model
We show that the conformally invariant boundary conditions for the three-state Potts model are exhausted by the eight known solutions. Their structure is seen to be similar to the one in a free field theory that leads to the existence of D-branes in string theory. Specifically, the fixed and mixed boundary conditions correspond to Neumann conditions, while the free boundary condition and the ne...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Studies of Dynamic Critical Phenomena
We review the current state of knowledge of dynamic critical phenomena in simple magnetic models and present high statistics Monte Carlo data for critical slowing down in Ising and Potts models in two and three dimensions. By fitting the relaxation functions to multi-exponential decays at the critical temperature and applying finite size scaling we are able to extract very accurate estimates fo...
متن کاملInterfacial adsorption phenomena of the three-dimensional three-state Potts model
We study the interfacial adsorption phenomena of the three-state ferromagnetic Potts model on the simple cubic lattice by the Monte Carlo method. Finite-size scaling analyses of the net-adsorption yield the evidence of the phase transition being of first-order and kBTC/J = 1.8166(2).

The Q-state Potts model in two dimensions is very fertile ground for the investigation of phase transitions and critical phenomena. For Q = 2 and 3 there is a second order phase transition between Q ferromagnetic ordered states and a disordered state. For Q = 4 the transition is also second order, but the usual critical behavior is modified by strong logarithmic corrections. For Q > 4 the trans...
متن کاملThe Temperley-Lieb algebra and its generalizations in the Potts and XXZ models
We discuss generalizations of the Temperley-Lieb algebra in the Potts and XXZ models. These can be used to describe the addition of different types of integrable boundary terms. We use the Temperley-Lieb algebra and its one-boundary, two-boundary, and periodic extensions to classify different integrable boundary terms in the 2, 3, and 4-state Potts models. The representations always lie at crit...
